The year 2008 marks the 20th Anniversary of the collaboration of Ironware International, Inc. and the Picard Atelier. The company was founded by Karin Eaton to market and distribute the product of Pierre Picard's unique artistry in hand wrought iron lighting and furniture.
Though stylistically diverse, the work of the Picard Atelier is readily identifiable. Mastery of old world techniques are revealed in a balance of strength and grace, movement and stability, whimsey and tradition. Pierre Picard created Picard Atelier in Normandy in 1966. Initially, he worked almost exclusively on restoration projects for buildings of historic significance. Later, he developed his custom work through his association with interior designers and architects. In 1989 he was awarded the title of Maitre Artisan, representing the highest category of recognition by the French state. Thierry Duboscq, Picard's son-in-law, now continues these esteemed traditions as Master Blacksmith of the Picard Atelier, while Thierry's son, David, prepares to be the third generation blacksmith.
Since its inception Ironware International, Inc. has been recognized for the exceptional quality of its hand forged iron collection. Uniquely detailed and in a wide range of styles, the line includes chandeliers, sconces, furniture, beds and fire accessories. Ironware International's U.S. studio offers UL approval for lighting and an array of painted finishes to enhance the beauty of the designs.
The nature of wrought iron allows it to fill the needs of those demanding imagination and indivduality. Over the years, the Ironware design studio emerged to satisfy the client's longings for Old World craftsmanship combined with modern practicality. It is not surprising that Ironware International's custom work is appreciated worldwide.
